There is an inherent wonder and magic to the natural world. Being animals ourselves, it is not a surprise that we have a strong connection to being outdoors. Feeling dirt or sand under our feet, sun on our faces, or a spray of ocean air on our skin reminds us that we are alive. Nature confirms that we are part of something greater than ourselves.
Sadly, we humans spend a lot of our time indoors inside houses, offices, cubicles, stores, churches, gyms, restaurants, cars, and subways. It truly takes some effort to stay in touch with that part of ourselves that longs to be with nature.
Hike Coaching is a method of Life Coaching designed for just that. Like Yoga Coaching, it is a way to reconnect with the wisdom of the body, through movement in and with nature. It takes us outside to breathe the air deeply, watch the hawks soar above us, to hear the sounds of the insects and waves crashing, the wind in the trees and feel the warmth of the earth beneath our feet (and perhaps in our hands).
We begin a Hike Coaching session with a grounding exercise and a “discovery” discussion to determine which of your challenges calls for attention. We will discuss (and practice) breath awareness and then we will hit the trail. This time is yours and you will receive my undivided attention and commitment to your healing and growth. Each session unfolds organically based on what comes up and my job as a coach is to guide you through the process. It is a sort of dance and we will follow the steps as they are revealed to us.
Hike Coaching is for anyone. Hiking or walking trails are chosen based on your physical fitness level and personal goals. We will discuss any physical limitations or injuries you have before we begin. Hike Coaching is not intended to be a physically demanding workout, however you may be asked to work to your edge. Throughout our session, I encourage you to give me feedback about any physical stress or discomfort.
